Lead platforms quote a price per lead. The number that decides whether they pay is the price per job, and it depends on something the platform never shows you: how many of those leads you actually win. Pick your trade, then drag each slider to your own numbers.
What does each job you win cost you?
From your own ads: $343 per job won
At these numbers shared leads are cheaper per job, by $43. Keep them, and work on the win rate: that is where the money is.
The presets are examples, not measurements: the win rates and the cost of an enquiry from your own ads are our assumptions. Your last month of invoices beats every one of them.
How the maths works
Nothing is hidden. Six lines:
- Each job from shared leads = what you spend on leads a month ÷ (leads a month × the share you win). Membership fees count as spend: on a credit-based plan, the plan is the lead money.
- Spent on leads someone else won = monthly spend × the share you lose. Not wasted exactly, but money that bought another business a job.
- Lead cost as a share of the job = cost per job ÷ average job value. Compare it with what the job leaves you after materials and wages.
- Each job from your own ads = cost per enquiry ÷ the share of those you win. Same spend on your own ads = (monthly spend ÷ cost per enquiry) × that share.
- One enquiry that's only yours = average job × the share of your own enquiries you win. This is what an unanswered call from your own ad is worth on average; the Perth figures are in how Perth tradies lose jobs to missed calls.
- Win one more lead in ten = leads a month × 10% × average job. That is extra revenue, not profit, from leads you are already paying for.
The roofing preset, worked through: $600 on 10 leads is $60 a lead. Winning 20% is 2 jobs, so each job cost $300, or 3.8% of an $8,000 job, and $480 of the month went on leads someone else won. The same $600 on your own ads at $120 an enquiry is 5 enquiries; winning 35% is 1.75 jobs at $343 each. At those numbers shared leads win on cost. Then look at the last line: one more win in ten is one more $8,000 job a month. The lead price was never the big number.
Where the preset numbers come from
The job values are published Perth prices. The lead prices are examples, except solar, which is SolarQuotes' own published price. Both win rates and the cost of an enquiry from your own ads are assumptions. Replace those first.
| Preset | Shared leads | Win rates | Average job | Behind the job value |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Roofing | $600 for 10 a month, an example | 20% shared, 35% own | $8,000 | A minor leak repair runs $260 to $840 and a single-storey re-roof $10,500 to $26,250 in Perth.[6] The preset sits between the two. |
| Solar and battery | $600 for 10, at SolarQuotes' $60 residential solar price[3] | 25% shared, 35% own | $6,500 | A 6.6 kW system runs $4,200 to $7,500 after the STC rebate, and a 10 kWh battery $7,700 to $10,200 after rebates.[7] |
| Air conditioning | $500 for 10 a month, an example | 20% shared, 35% own | $5,000 | A split system install runs $1,250 to $4,725 and a ducted system $8,400 to $23,100.[8] |
The own-ads cost per enquiry is a click price divided by the share of clicks that enquire: $12 a click with one visitor in ten enquiring is $120. For reference, WordStream's 2026 benchmark for home and home improvement clicks is an average of $8.33.[9] Your suburb, trade and landing page move that more than anything on this page.
What Perth tradies pay for leads in 2026
The four ways most Perth trade businesses buy work, as each one publishes it.
| Source | How you pay | Who else gets the lead | Contract |
|---|---|---|---|
| hipages | Plans of $139 to $649 a month plus GST, loaded with credits you spend to accept leads. A lead's credit price moves with demand.[1] | Up to three tradies per lead[2] | Six-month introductory term, then renews for 12 months at a time[1] |
| SolarQuotes | Per lead, ex GST: $60 residential solar, $55 batteries, $185 commercial solar[3] | A maximum of three installers[3] | No contract or minimum spend. Reject a lead within 7 days for a full refund[3] |
| ServiceSeeking | Membership from $129 a month including GST for most members, priced by trade and area[4] | Members in range quote on the same job; no exclusivity stated | Cancel online; prepaid periods are not refunded[4] |
| Oneflare | Closed on 30 June 2026. oneflare.com.au now redirects to Airtasker[5] | — | — |
| Your own Google Ads | Per click, straight to Google, in an account you own | Nobody. The enquiry is yours | None. The account stays yours |
hipages blocks visitors from outside Australia, so its prices here are as KingTradie reports them from hipages' own membership and terms pages. Check the current plan in your account. Where a click budget usually leaks is in Google Ads for Perth tradies.
Is hipages worth it for tradies?
It can be. Plenty of homeowners post jobs on it, and for a business that needs volume it fills a diary quickly. It gets harder to make pay for three reasons: each lead goes to up to three tradies, a lead's credit price moves with demand, and the plan runs a six-month term that renews for twelve.[1][2]
So test it on your own numbers, not on a forum thread. Take last month's spend and lead count from your account, count the jobs those leads actually turned into, and put all three in the calculator. If the cost per job is a small slice of what each job leaves you, it is working. If it isn't, the first fix is usually not leaving. When three businesses get the same enquiry, the customer usually ends up talking to whoever replied first, so answering inside a minute can move your win rate more than any plan change. The full breakdown, with what a lead costs in dollars on each plan, is in is hipages worth it for Perth roofers and solar installers.
Is buying solar leads worth it?
Often, yes, on the maths. A $60 SolarQuotes lead won one time in four is $240 per job against a system worth $4,200 to $7,500.[3][7] SolarQuotes also lets you reject a lead within seven days for a full refund. The catch is speed: SolarQuotes requires installers to have systems in place to follow up every lead within one business day, and up to two other installers are calling the same household.[3] The installer who replies in minutes, and chases the quote a week later, wins more of the same leads.
Are roofing leads worth it?
It depends on what is in them. A Perth roofing lead can be a $260 leak repair or a $26,000 re-roof.[6] A shared platform sends you both. If most of your leads turn out to be small repairs, set the average job slider to that, and the cost per job shows quickly whether the platform is feeding you the work you want. Your own ads let you choose: pay only for searches like re-roofing and restoration, not gutter cleans.
Where exclusive leads come from
Leads from your own Google Ads go to you and nobody else. They cost more per enquiry, so they only beat shared leads on cost per job if you win more of them, and that comes down to two things: answering inside a minute, and following up when people go quiet. The other source that's only yours costs nothing per click: your Google Business Profile. See how yours scores against your map pack.
That is the system we run for established roofing, air con and solar businesses in Perth and Peel: ads in your own Google account, every enquiry answered inside a minute, quiet ones chased on day 2, 7 and 21, and estimates booked into your diary. Winning the job is yours. Your first 8 booked estimates are free. How it works.
